| Helen Folasade Adu
was born on January 16th 1959 in Ibadan, Nigiria. The daughter of an
economics professor and a nurse, Sade( pronounced shar-day) moved with her
English mother to Colshester, Essex, at the age of 4, after a seperation of
her parents. Although she studied fashion desgning at St. Martin's Art
College in London, her main passion was music. Even in between part-time
jobs as a teenager-as a waitress, a bike messenger, and later as a model-
she always made time for music. She was inspired by the jazz and soul
celebrities. She started her music career with the British band, " Pride",
then she quickly began attracting the attention of audiences thanks to her
smooth style. By 1983, she separated from "Pride" and set up her own band to
go from one success to another not only in the UK, but also abroad. |

| By the late 80s, life in the public eye was too much
for Sade and she quit recording, seeking refuge in Madrid and Jamaica. " The
effect of fame on me was so bad that I couldn't make another record," she
explained Although Sade returned in 1992 with hits like " No Ordinary Love," she still prfers to avoid publicity. "I don't want to be famous. I really don't. I don't believe people should know every detail of your life," she said. |
