Integration
of ICT in ELT: |
|||
|
During the first four sessions of the training course, four modules were presented to the trainees. The course started a web site development session using Microsoft FrontPage editor. Then, the participants were trained in the use of the Hot Potatoes authoring tool to devise online interactive with exercises. To enhance the graphic quality of their productions, they tried their hands at an image processing software (Photoshop) |

| and an animation program (Flash 5). | |||
| A whole session was devoted to debate the issue of the Integration of ICT in ELT in the Tunisian context. First, the participants filled a questionnaire in order to be more informed about their prerequisites, assumptions and beliefs about integration. Then, to raise the trainees' awareness of the major concerns related to the use of ICT in ELT classes, they, in groups, pooled arguments both for and against integration. This was followed by a stimulating discussion about the constraints and how to overcome them. This debate led to a consensus among participants in favor of experimenting with integration and dealt with the outcome of their experiments in a pragmatic way. The participants agreed also on the fact that the determining aspect of a successful use of ICT in ELT is not through the tool but rather the way it is integrated in the lesson plan and the curriculum as a whole. | |||
| As a follow-up to this workshop, the trainees were asked to subscribe to the | |||
| T-NELT mailing list in order to elaborate on the issues raised and suggest | |||
| new
threads for the debate on integration. |
