Youngsters and Music

Music has been around for thousands of years. It appeals to everyone. It has an impact on everyone. Ever since we are babies, we are influenced by music . A baby can not sleep without hearing its mother singing a nursery rime. Children express their joy and happiness by singing. Music is important to most teenagers. It is a way to get away from all life problems. Music gives teenagers a different way to think than the "normal" way to think. When happy or keeping themselves busy, adults sing or listen to music by playing a tape or a record. But those who appreciate music most are youngsters. They listen to CDs, and they appreciate video clips and DVDs. Music helps them express their joy, happiness, sadness, pain and grief. They listen to music everywhere : at home, in the street, at school, on foot and even when they take a bath. They are, if we can say, “music maniacs". They love rhythm, whatever it is . It can be: Latino, Samba, Hiphop, Hard Rock, Metal, Oriental, Jazz, Rap, Blues, Kabuki, Valtzand, Soul, Dance, Gotic... There is no restriction ; music, for them, is not exclusive. It’s something that affects the body and the soul. It helps the youth reach a kind of transe and ecstasy. This is why youngsters everywhere love music.

The new information technology helps youth standardize their taste and exchange their cultural heritage. Thus, music becomes one of the best tools for them to enhance tolerance and peace.

Unfortunately, children and teenagers appear to be the main "users" of contemporary violent music. The majority of them do not comprehend the meaning and nuance of the words that they are listening to. Their insufficiently developed powers of reasoning makes it impossible for them to understand the sexual allegories, the various depraved terminologies embodied in such songs. Moreover, they are not conscious of the extend of the negative impacts of this type of music. All they hunger for are powerful stimuli; something new , exciting and interesting.
